 The best place to ask a general club query is the club office. Irmscher posted a question here at 11pm, then when this wasn't answered by 10am the next day posted two more different questions. As with any question posted here, you have to wait until someone comes along who knows the answer. He has been advised on several previous occasions to contact the office directly with his general club queries as this will be the quickest way to get an answer. If someone has had no response from the club office I am happy to chase this up but people do need to pm me their names, the date they contacted the office, who they contacted, and the nature of their contact. So far, out of those who have complained about the club office ignoring them, no one has provided any further details via pm. The messageboard isn't the place for posting complaints so please lets get back to posting messages about Minors and providing constructive comments to questions asked. Thank you :D

I don't think you really answered my question, Louise, rather you coloured in the problem I illustrated. I asked WHY nobody from the club bothers with the site - I think you're perfectly placed as a moderator of said site to answer that, and as you say, chase it up with head office.

I'm a new member of the MMOC, joining at the National last year. This site is helpful, but it's not the only one. It IS outdated and clunky, and despite talk of a new webmaster, nothing has changed. For example, no information on the National this year!

Perhaps if someone from Head Office actually engaged with the forum they'd recognise the easiest way to communicate information is via the Internet. Louise you cannot ignore the tone of this thread. This club is exceptionally bad at sharing information with members, and potential members, and if anyone questions this they're fobbed off with 'Contact Head Office' - and then they're ignored!!!!

Will I renew my membership this year? Or maybe give the money to one of our nominated charities instead and forgo an occasional magazine.........

Maybe a good idea in 2015 with the internet being the fastest media(and no chance of unanswered phone calls) it would be time for a paid up member to become a liason between the club and the forum? I'm pretty sure(and a poll would soon find out)if someone would make themselves available to do this. This person could then be the person that phones the club(an agreement could be made to reimburse for call charges)and publishes the requested information on here. There are plenty of forum users that are retired with time on their hands to do this.Maybe give free/reduced membership as an advantage?I'm sure if the club have spare funds available to give to charity they could spare a bit of it to relieve the frustration we obviously have at present?
Its good of you to respond to these type of questions Louise in a voluntary role but indignant responses from frustrated users is perfectly understandabe.I remember when the questions were being asked recently about the convertible the club had acquired for restoration. The silence really did make people there was something the powers that be didn't want the membership to know.It took weeks before any proper sort of answer was given

Irmscher - I've received a response from the office stating
we do not have a nominated charity on an annual basis but Marie Curie has been our nominated Charity in the past
As previously stated, Branches can choose their own charity to support although some are continuing to support Marie Curie. As for how much was raised last year, this would involve contacting all of the branches to ask them. Why do you need to know the amount?

You didn't actually ask that question, hence the reason why I didn't reply. Staff at the club office and committee members do visit the site (the webmaster is a committee member) and answer members questions (often via pm) but they have full time jobs so don't visit here as regularly as some.
For example, no information on the National this year!
That is currently in hand by the webmaster.

The best way to communicate with members, to ensure that all receive the same information at the same time, is via the club magazine. If you search the messageboard you will see that people are not 'fobbed off' by being told to contact the club office. The moderators and other forum members try their best to answer others questions but if the information requested can be obtained more quickly by contacting the club office directly then members are advised of that. Plus sometimes the query will require details of the persons name and membership number which other people on the messageboard won't know.

Surely direct contact with the person who can answer the question (via phone or email) is a much faster media than posting on an intranet chat forum and hoping that the person who can answer the question sees it? I have undertaken a lot of liaison with the club office but there is no reason why other members can't do the same. I don't think that placing a 'barrier' between members and the office, whereby they put forward questions via a third party, is the way to go to improve club communication. The office staff and committee members are happy to communicate with members directly so I don't see why members wouldn't want to do the same.
Its good of you to respond to these type of questions Louise in a voluntary role but indignant responses from frustrated users is perfectly understandable.
Unconstructive comments which are not of any help to the original poster are not so understandable though. If you wish to complain about the staff in the club office here is not the place to do it. Despite 3 people referring to emails which have not been replied to, and unanswered phone calls, no one has provided me with any details via pm. If you want to raise complaints you should be prepared to back them up with specific details so that something can be done about them. You would be helping other members as well as yourself.
I remember when the questions were being asked recently about the convertible the club had acquired for restoration. The silence really did make people there was something the powers that be didn't want the membership to know.It took weeks before any proper sort of answer was given
A response was provided to the OP very quickly suggesting that he contact those who would be able to answer his question but for whatever reason he did not wish to do this. As with this thread, when the original question was not answered within a short period of time, further questions were posted. Details of the car were posted in Minor Matters for all members to see, and those who could answer the specific questions both explained that they do not visit the messageboard regularly due to other commitments. Had the OP simply contacted the individuals directly via phone or email, as advised, his question would have been answered a lot quicker. Members here are happy to try to help out others but I don't think it's unreasonable for members to also do their bit too, as that's part of being a member of any club.

I'm a new member, when I signed up for membership I thought that this website and the forum were part of the MMOC, am I wrong in that assumption? If they are, then why is there so much trouble getting a straight answer from "Head Office", after all they exist to serve us, not the other way around? If they are not part of the whole club experiance then what am I paying £30 for?

In this day and age the quickest form of communication is by email, which I am sure 99.99% of club members has access to, make a group email account and email everyone at once, much quicker than waiting two months for a printed magazine, make the magazine a PDF available to download online, then if anyone wants a printed copy to keep they can print it out themselves, would save the club a fortune.

Whilst I'm on moaning, where is the "Introduce yourself" section on the messageboard and where are the details to enable me to buy a technical CD? I have to agree with a previous poster, as far as websites go this one is in the dark ages.

An observation.....

When I joined the club in 1983, The Chairman was John Frye, Secretary Ray Newall, Spares Office Bryan Gostling. When I left the club in 2014 - (club membership was of no benefit to me; - also no thanks for your support / why are you leaving after all this time?), the same three people we still in the same jobs........

To be fair, 99% of the membership are in the Club solely for "social" events/rally's, so are not bothered with who
runs the show - that only leaves 1% who're vaguely interested in constant research (which is MY thing) - for this
reason, nothing will ever change - same goes for the LCV Club, people are not interested in NEW historical stuff!
