places to visit
i know i'm doing this a bit early but.... i'm planning a holiday in the UK next year with my wife and i'm looking for suggestions of places to visit with morris connections. one idea is the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon and i think i will try for a couple of the dealer/part suppliers for a bit of a nosie around. any other brilliant suggestions will be appreciated.

I am planning a holiday in Australia with my wife later this year and I am looking for Morris Minor related places to visit!!
You do not say when you are holidaying but you may wish to tie in with the National Rally, normally around the end of June.

Re: places to visit
if visiting around oxford, nuffield place is nice

the nuffield needle in cowley close to the old factory is ok if you are driving past but not worth a big detour.

Re: places to visit
Next year is the 40th Anniversary of the MMOC and the Rally is already booked for 2 & 3 July 2016 at Catton Hall, Walton upon Trent, Derbyshire, DE12 9LN, so this would be a good show to visit during you holiday to meet fellow Morris Minor owners

Re: places to visit
The other place you MUST visit if around Oxford is the Morris Motors Museum which is combined with the Oxford Bus Museum at Long Hanborough, near Oxford. Gaydon isn't far from Oxford - under an hour.charlie_morris_minor wrote:if visiting around oxford, nuffield place is nice

You can pass by the outside of the house that William Morris was born in, in St.Johns, Worcester. It's a private house though, so no going inside.

Re: places to visit
thanks Mike the national rally sounds great, that gives me a date to aim for as she wants to go to athens and seville before we get to england. in return you may wish to try and connect with our national rally too. it's usually on the easter weekend somewhere in the eastern states (victoria, new south wales or queensland). this year is 3-6th April being hosted by the Albury Wodonga morris car club. there is really only one place i know of with minors, the morris minor garage, it's about 1 1/2 hours drive outside melbourne so it's not really practical unless you are going to melbourne.mike.perry wrote:I am planning a holiday in Australia with my wife later this year and I am looking for Morris Minor related places to visit!!

i'm in perth which is a little too far to drive to the rally, melbourne is about 5 1/2 hours by airliner from me, to do it in the morris- 3534 km at 80 kmph is 44.2 hours driving, as i don't have spot lights or a roo bar no driving before sun up or after sun down, so maximum of 12 hrs/day =4 days, not allowing for petrol or toilet stops or meals or anything else. most likely then about 6 days to drive each way. this is all assuming no tantrums from the morris being asked to cover at least 600km every day for 6 days. the local club say there are some vehicles attending from here, i suspect they will be going on the train or maybe even a truck. the train takes 4 days and 3 nights and costs about 500 pounds for the car each way

Re: places to visit
thanks Steve for you very kind offer. we should have a hire car again that we'll collect in london after we arrive. we did it last year and had a ball driving around in a fiat 500L for 10 days. drive it like you stole it as it belongs to hertz. i only got one fine sent through to me, lucky i think.SteveClem wrote:If you come to Derbyshire for the 40th anniversary and want to borrow a Minor for a few days just let me know.
