Horn wire in steering

Post by stevespickup »

Hello all, I have searched the forum but cant find where the horn wire that runs down the steering comes out? My horn works when I turn the steering wheel to the left or the right even just a little, but in a straight line the horn will not work, I have taken the steering wheel centre/horn push out and the spring loaded connection is good, I looked under the car expecting to see a wire coming out from the centre of the steering pivot but I cant see where this wire exits from the steering column, any ideas please

That wire is only a few inches long and is attached to a brass "slip ring" just below the steering wheel. This in turn has a contact on the indicator switch that the wiring then runs through.
If it is ok on a bit of a lock I would say you just need to clean the contact faces on the slip ring and block on the indicator switch.
To do this properly you will have to remove the steering wheel and the black cover below held on with 3 small screws :D

Thank you WPR678B, that explains why I couldn't find a wire coming from the bottom of the steering column  I will take another look, thank you again

Hi, I have also the strange trouble with my horn...
Nothings when I push the button but the horn ring if I turn on right or left with the steering wheel!

I take off St wheel and black plastic protection. I saw the contact of horn toutch the earth (column) because there is space beetween coulumn and pipe protection.

I bend little bet this connection but now my horn doens't work in anytimes...

If you think about any solution.

Cheers

Sorry don't find a good word!! Frenchy...

Unfortunately, he doesn't sing but simply ring..

Then I finish to find the problem:

Little paw was bent backwards.

The connection must come which mingle with the yellow ring on the steering wheel column.
