HI All,
I recently changed…..brake cylinders, drums, master cylinder…. all is ok and brakes are very firm….however when the car has been dunning for a while ( 5-8 miles) the front brakes seem to bind slightly…if i take my foot off the gas she stops in a relatively short distance, and the front wheels are very hot to the touch.
when she cools all is fine again……..something is making the cylinders stick when warm anyone please?
Mike

Re: hot brakes!!!!!
When you fitted the new master cylinder the screw on the push rod is maybe not leaving enough free play to allow the fluid to return fully. There should be around 1/4 to 1/2 inch of free play at the pedal before the brakes start to operate. I once had the brakes heat up after a rebuild until it would hardly move at all, had to back off the pushrod at the side of the road to get moving again...

Re: hot brakes!!!!!
Another vote for the push rod, I had the same problem recently too.
It seems that the relationship between the mounting holes in the master cylinder and the rest of it isn't the same any more.
I'm sure it used to be, back in the day.

Thank you all very much,
adjusted the nut on rod that enters the master cylinder and my brake drums were cold to the touch after a 10 mile trip
