If you ever happen to come to Berlin, on a business trip or for a holiday, make sure you spare a few hours and take a look at the Classic Remise. Never heard of? Well, I hadn’t until I got there by chance a fortnight ago, and I can tell you it is well worth a visit!
Imagine a large old tramway depot (tram services in West Berlin ceased in 1967) which has been restored and now houses dealers, garages, parts sales, but all of them for vintage and classic cars only. There are also about fifty boxes where owners of old cars can store their precious vehicles, inaccessible but for view through glass panels. Add a theme restaurant, meeting rooms and rooms for vintage car clubs and there you are. During the opening hours the public can walk through for free, breathe the atmosphere and enjoy the cars on display.
It's much better than a museum!
Let me take you for a walk round the depot:

It really begins in the streets around the Classic Remise. They are full of cars which have just been brought in to be prepared for resale or waiting for a space in one of the workshops, just like these three French ones.

Indeed, France is well represented.

One of the car dealers has specialized in vintage Mercedes cars, but if you want one you should bring your large wallet.

Another garage looks after Italian cars, just like this Alfa Romeo Giulia in police outfit.

You can be sure to find some very rare items, like a two-engines Citroen 2 CV Sahara or this LHD Jensen Interceptor Convertible, which could be yours for only 23.000 Euros.

One of the garages cares for British cars only and also has a sales department which will soon be offering this LHD Moggy, imported from Denmark, …

… and this rare Daimler.

While we were there this one was unloaded after arrival from the paint shop. If I’m right it is a Daimler Conquest (please correct me, if I’m wrong)

This is a view into the workshop of the same company. From the number plates you can see that cars are brought in from as far as Switzerland for maintenance and repair.

Another one of the dealers has dozens of “posh” cars for sale, …

… among them some more cars which came off British production lines.
There is only a fraction of the photographs I was able to take during the more than two hours my wife and I spent on the site.
The Classic Remise is easy to reach. It is only a ten minute walk from the S-Bahn station of Beusselstrasse which is on the outer circle line (S-Bahn Nos. S 41 and S 42) Buses TXL to and from Berlin-Tegel airport also stop at Beusselstrasse station.
