Clogged up breather pipe
I've been aware of an engine oil leak at the front tappet cover, on taking the cover off I notice that the breather pipe is very clogged with nasty black goo. Should I be worried? What could be causing this?

That's strange R2, the damage doesn't look so bad from here!

Roger
If the breather pipe hasn't been cleaned for a while then I shouldn't worry. If you have symptoms of engine "ill health" e.g exhaust smoking badly, there would be concern.
Just clean up the breather pipe in an old take away foil tray, white spirit, petrol, bit of wire, cloth, long thin screwdriver etc.
Do it in the fresh air and allow to dry thoroughly , re-install.

Thanks Bob. Yes, engine seems sweet and inside rocker cover looks ok. Oil filler cap a bit grotty - so will renew that and a new gasket on the tappet cover.
