Electronic ignition
I am sure this post may be regarded as laziness but having taken a cursory look, haven't immediately hit the relevant thread. Am I sensible in considering an electronic ignition kit for my minor? Just suspect it might be easier for me to maintain electrics on song with one.
Any advice on which systems are best?
Thanks in anticipation, Andrew

Re: Electronic ignition
As above, if you must do this - go for a complete new 45D dizzy from accuspark or simonbbc.....

Re: Electronic ignition
Just been looking on eBay and get confused by the plethora of Accuspark offers from 'Sportsman' through ' Stelth' to things a deal cheaper. Would appreciate if someone might provide a link to most appropriate purchase for a 1098 MM
Thanks again in anticipation.

Re: Electronic ignition
You can save money by buying the kit of module and rotor arm to replace your existing points but the complete distributor replacement gives you the reassurance that you have a known working spare to drop in if anything did go wrong with the new one.

Re: Electronic ignition
Just looked on the Accuspark website and they do a complete kit with leads, plugs and dizzy for about £80.
Is it a straightforward job to swap or does it involve a lot of setting up and "Fiddling"?

Re: Electronic ignition
I found it straight forward and easy, I set my timing marks to tds before fitting

Go with this and get a meatier spark too. I've been running one of these for 25 years, faultless!

Glad to be back!
Re: Electronic ignition
Thats a blast from the past.
Re: Electronic ignition
I had one in the past that did go blast
Re: Electronic ignition
Simple A series engines don't NEED a 'meatier spark' ! The slightest spark will ignite the compressed mixture... This is a common fallacy...the standard coil produces plenty of spark - and larger plug gaps don't help either!

Re: Electronic ignition
One last question please! This is the response I received from the Accupark email interface. Which one please, kit 4 or 5?
" Ouir 45D kit would be correct as long as your distributor is the Lucas 45D type, from the application menu on our website this is kit 5.
If your distributor is the earlier 25D type, then you need kit 4.
Please note that both of these kits are suitable for negative earth only."
Thanks again Andrew

Re: Electronic ignition
If you have a 25D dizzy - then you need kit4! But why not just treat the car (and yourself) to a complete new 45D dizzy - then it is drop-in, no fuss no bother, new vacuum advance new cap/leads -all new - and your old dizzy goes in the boot as a 'known good' spare. Some folks run into problems fitting the 'kit' - is it worth the hassle? The 45D is a later model 'improved' dizzy. Go for it!

Re: Electronic ignition
Are Accuspark products that unreliable that you need to carry a spare in the boot!

Glad to be back!
Re: Electronic ignition
Well Roy did say that he didnt see the need for the electronic ignition. If the OP wants to buy one he'll have a spare.
Re: Electronic ignition
The 'spare' is so you can help out other Minor owners when you find them broken down at the roadside!
I have good old points - but I do see the sense for 'non-technical' folks to just drop in a complete new dizzy from Accu or Simon (think they are the same product) and have no more worries hopefully for years to come. Folks who have them seem to speak well of them.
