Engine not firing?

Post by laneychief »

Hi all,

Me again!

Got to the point of firing morris up, and all it's doing is popping kinda like a backfire but not firing up?

There's fuel coming through the pump, there's a spark on every plug but it just won't roar into life just this pop pop pop

Any hints!
Thanks in advance!!!

Edd

I was about to suggest that...well done finding it! :D Put a small tie-wrap round #1 plug lead - so you won't get it wrong again.

Marked them with a sharpie!!

Unfortunately it's stopped turning over now and the solenoid is just emitting loud clicks sounds like it's dead, could no use for ages then frequent turning over kill it?

Flat battery or loose/dirty connections symptom! Does the engine turn over ok on the handle ?? When it was running - was the generator charging ?

Ah, not sure without my voltmeter going.

Tomorrow my father in law is on brakes and I'm on wiring!

Charged the battery and still just a loud clicking noise coming from the solenoid, really annoying as we had it running fine yesterday, why would it just die..?

Starter stuck in? Rock the car in top gear - handbrake off and Ign OFF. You don't say if the engine turns..maybe it has seized???

It just clicks, just the solenoid no turn or anything, I haven't got a handle to test it with unfortunately.

Just whip the plugs out and turn it with the fan blade!

The solenoid has been changed to no avail, we took off the starter and every connection seems good in there, the battery must be charged enough as we had it on most of yesterday and it will run the lights and everything, I just don't know where to go.

You see, we had it running, idling for about ten minutes, turned it off, went away for half an hour then upon trying it again it just clicks? We hadn't even changed anything in that half an hour!

I'm sorry I didn't understand what you meant, yes I've turned it by hand. Just cleaning battery leads now.
