Laygear circlips
Can anyone give me secret tip on how to get the circlips out of the laygear? It seems to be an earlier one with the circlips housed in a groove. I can't get the blighters out, I've tried swearing and everything.

How do you get the bearings out then?

Re: Laygear circlips
Just swear louder and you may frighten them out
.
Yes difficult to get out but just use a thin blade screwdriver and a bit of perseverance (unavailable from 'e' bay).
You may not need to refit them as some bearings now supplied are longer. They cannot go anywhere as they will be held in place by the rear circlip and the thrust washer at the outer side.
Best of luck and no stabbing your self with the screwdriver

Ah right - the outer circlips were deleted on later gearboxes - I assumed you were worrying about the inner circlips which can indeed be left in place. But if the layshaft is unworn/perfect - then the roller bearings are also in good condition, and I would not disturb them...... If the layshaft is worn and being renewed - then yes - I would fit new rollers.
