Exhaust pipe
My exhaust has been too close to the bodywork where it passes through the hole in the lower bulkhead, I mentioned this a year or so ago and said I would try another pipe some time in the future, well I have just done so and it's no better. Remember Roy? You said you would! Anyway the only way I could get the pipe to achieve a reasonably gap through the hole was to remove 1/2 inch off of the manifold end to 'lift' the pipe away. Anyone else have a badly made exhaust? I have about 7mm clearance now,

Re: Exhaust pipe
Nothing to do with the bkt - welded to the chassis leg - being too short?
Either that or TWO naff exhausts!!
Either that or TWO naff exhausts!!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Exhaust pipe
My exhaust is a 3 branch Mini Cooper manifold, modified and going down the side of the engine and then tucks under the chassis leg....

Re: Exhaust pipe
i had a mild steel one from esm and plenty of clearance
the stainless steel one i bought from bull motiff hit the body work

Re: Exhaust pipe
Think I'll try to find a 3 branch from a mini and alter it, although at the moment I've got clearance.
Re: Exhaust pipe
It doesn't leave much ground clearance under the chassis leg - although it hasn't hit anything...yet.

Re: Exhaust pipe
Ah yes of course, I was thinking it could pass through the original opening but it will lay quite tight to the engine and so the pipe will run the opposite side of the chassis leg. I might leave well alone!
Re: Exhaust pipe
You could always cut a small section out of the downpipe near the silencer and re-weld it to alter the angle...

Re: Exhaust pipe
I think by the time the 3 branches join into one, the pipe is then too low to divert to a more standard position.
Re: Exhaust pipe
Indeed it is - and it has to be TIGHT to the engine - I had to heat and 'adjust' it to get it clear of the chassis leg.
