Latest acquisition - engine numbers

Post by gtt1951 »

I've now got my 3rd Moggie, a 4 door Series II (1955). It has had a couple of engine transplants, all keeping to the 803cc engine. The current engine's plate has broken off and the aluminium strip was tucked in behind the bulkhead identification plate. A previous engine's number is also attached, to the same plate, by being screwed on, using one of the plate corner screws. The V5C still shows the original factory fitted engine number, as the previous owner wasn't aware that DVLA need to be informed when the engine number changes.
All 3 engine numbers are in different formats and I would like to know what the prefixed ones refer to?
Original = 209343
1st change = EX 25577
Current = A 197421

"EX" number denotes bound for Export.

APHM engine
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Aha, that might explain things as the previous owner did buy into an MMOC container, full of spares, shipped from Oz.
I'll have to give him a call.
Thanks,
George.

Most contempory Oz 4drs were FA51's - using their own both the
UK & Aussie chassis number sequence.

Odd.

Hello POMMreg, the car is a UK car, but some of the "spares", from Oz, were fitted to it.
George.

FA 21 is export RHD, FA 51 is CKD.

Must be a cancelled EX, doubt it, but....

If you let me know the body numbers I'll see if it's anywhere near a CKD block.
