Hi all, restoring a 1954 saloon.

Lovely, just wondering if I should close the holes or not at this stage, think I'll go without and save sourcing bits. Thanks

Isn't 1954 now MOT exempt?

Of course - but the washer Reg may be Construction and Use Reg - so cars must comply when on the highway.

I think the applicable weasily words are -

This requirement applies to All vehicles, except those
. with an opening windscreen, or
. with some other means of providing the driver with an adequate view.

Best wishes, Colin.

Interesting but I think I'll go without anyway. Surely the same applies if the vehicle didn't have seatbelts or indicators originally - that they are not required now?

Are you expecting consistancy or sense from our law makers?

This requirement applies to All vehicles, except those

. with some other means of providing the driver with an adequate view.

These are the rules, ignore them at your peril.

some rules only apply from a specific date, others were backdated- Washers,Some Lights I think are in the latter category.

Yes it is in the con and use regs, ecept as above(opening windows etc),if the police see you with a screen that is covered in cr....p and take the stance that you do not have a clear view, they will pull you and if you have no washers will stick it on a fixed penalty,so leave them off at your peril. Seat belts do not come into it since there was a cut off date prior to this you do not need to have them. even without the regs I wouldn't want to drive about behind hgvs throwing up masses of road spray, without being able to wash it of once it has dried on.Can't see a thing, and the old moggie wipers arn't the most efficient things, even when new.
