leafsprings

today i noticed a rattle from the rear of car :-?
turned out to be the clips on the leafsprings...
they now just slide on the springs :evil:
how do i fix them? or can they be bought new...
tried the search but nothing...

Once upon a time there was this bear, no no I mean there was no way the clamps could slip because they were riveted but now some bright spark had decided you can do it for less money, so now they use packing case straps wound round a piece of rubber. You could make some or yes maybe ebay.

had a closer look...
there is a pin on the spring where the clamp fits?
and some fragments of rubber.
so would it be ok to try and replace the rubber and nip up the clamp?

Difficult to visualize your setup, maybe there is an existing clamp still on the springs that you can compare with

Yes you can open them up, clean, replace the rubber and reassemble.

Take care to bend the tabs only as far as you need to. I snapped one but managed to spot MIG it back in place so you can't see the crack. I don't think you can do this more than once, they will certainly break the second time.

Are you sure that's the source of the rattle ? Seems unlikely to me......

Thinking the same, must have good hearing to pick them out above the din of a Minor! :D

all four are loose.
i had the engine ticking over and was walking round the tail end and heard
the noise.
can't hear it while in the car :lol:
