Engine id ?

Hi guys ( and girls ) new member to the forum, i have a quick question for you can you tell the size of the engine
from the block ? i mean can you tell a 998cc engine from a 1098cc one ? might be a silly question i know but i'm
new to the morris life. I used to drive a company MM van in the mid 80's but that's about it. Thank you

Hi

On the block, just behind the timing chain cover on the inlet/exhaust manifold side. There should be a plate saying i.e 1100

Another way to tell is the 1098 engine has a temp sender tapping under the thermostat housing. The 948 engine does not have a temp sender.

It's easy enough to spot a 998 engine - it will be fitted sideways....usually in a Mini,,,,,,

The 948 has 950 cast in the block above the tappet chest. 998 was not used in the Minor.
