oil leak in gear box

Post by bessie123 »

getting clutch slip on 1950 MM , oil not coming from engine but from gearbox.
Should or have the gearbox on early MM a oilseal ?

It's just a scroll. It's much more likely the oil is escaping from the engine crank tail. What makes you think it's leaking from the gearbox?

The MM gearbox has a scroll on the front plate, however front plates with seals were produced. I have one but have never been able to fit it as I cannot remove the thrust bearing bracket to change the plate so I cannot vouch for it effectiveness.
Check the first motion shaft for wobble, any more than a slight sideway movement will allow oil past the scroll. Also smell the oil from the bottom of the flywheel housing, you should be able to tell the difference between engine and gearbox oil and check the gearbox dipstick for any significant oil loss
Please send me your car details for the register
