I have just replaced the brakes shoes on the front of my 1957 Morris. I have done this some years ago but I am not sure if I have done it correctly. Have printed off the Tech Advice on doing brakes and followed it. However The nearside drum is very stiff even though I have released the adjuster. The drum was very difficult to get on. I cannot turn it even one notch to adjust. Would be grateful for any advice. The other drum is ok and I have adjusted the drum as per the Tech Advice. I have taken the car out and the brakes are working but there is a bit of a burning smell after the run.Many thanks, I know this has been asked before.
Check that the return springs are in the correct holes in the shoes and that the pistons are fully retracting. Also check that the handbrake is releasing fully, the handbrake must be set after the shoes have been adjusted
Its the front brakes mike If you have fitted the shoes correctly and the cams were in the fully off position and then only one click locks that side up you may have to relieve the metal ends of the shoes with a file ,I think some of the shoes nowadays are a poor replacement,some too short some too long
Hi, Many thanks I have managed to get the drums on I found that the cylinders were sticking out a bit ooops. Well we live and learn. And yes the shoes were a tad long so I did take some off that also helped. Thanks again.
