dynamo
hi just new to forum ive got a 68 van just bought a replacement dynamo and due too oldness struggling to get old 1 off tried almost everything nuts just spinning anybody any ideas before a grinder comes out lol lol
Re: dynamo
Welcome to the forum... Why would the nuts be spinning? They are usually well coated with oil. Are you using the correct Imperial ring spanners for the job? You certainly DO NOT need to put a grinder anywhere near it..... Use 1/2" AF for the two top bolts/nuts and 9/16" AF for the clamp nut on the slide bracket. You CANNOT use Metric spanners on a Minor. Good idea to fit a new fan belt at the same time, and make sure the pulleys are perfectly aligned. You may need to polarise the new dynamo after installation.

Re: dynamo
The dynamo is secured with nuts and bolts (1/2" UNF) except for the adjustment pillar (9/16" UNF) fixed to the front plate and which the slotted adjustment plate fits over. Do check the pillar nut (9/16" UNF) on the back of the front engine plate for tightness and possibly the lower dynamo nut (1/2" UNF) where the adjustment strap fits to it. So to sum up you need two spanners of :- 1/2" & 9/16" UNF, one to hold the bolt head and another to undo the nut.
Happy spannering

Re: dynamo
I'm going to assume it's the dynamo adjustment pillar that's spinning as this has happened to me a few times.
Look behind the backplate, the adjustment nut (through the sliding bracket) has a nut on the other side of the backplate, what commonly happens is the pillar turns in the backplate. Just get a 9/16AF spanner on the inside (aforementioned nut) while undoing the nut as you have been doing and it will come off
