HI All
Am having great fun at the moment with my 1958 4 door saloon. I replaced the condenser at the weekend, while giving the car a service, only because there was a new one in the kit I brought. A couple of days later the car started coughing and got progressively worse.
I tried a few things ..... Cleaning carb, checking fuel pump, checking points, re-checking compression (a bit paranoid!), but then read some stuff on here about the condenser causing problems, so I have swapped back in the old one and all is well.
It appears the new one is not of very high quality and is also slightly longer meaning the fit is not as good (Is there more than one part here?), and when I tested it at work it seems that it is an intermittent fault at the cable end causing the problem.
Just thought I would post on here as a warning to others, and also to thank you all for pointing me in the right direction for diagnosing the fault.

Aye - the useless condensers do seem to be driving folks to the electronic alternative.....I may even go that route myself....

Re: Modern "Lucas" condensers
Earlier this year I had ignition problems with poor quality parts, I bought a condenser and points from Distributor Doctor and am impressed with the quality.

That looks like an excellent site. I may well give them a try for some a couple of spares.
