What radio to fit?

Hi

I'm looking to fit a stereo to my 2 door saloon. I'm not entirely sure where to put the speakers and would prefer something freestanding if such a thing exists!

However, I'm not sure how powerful a radio I'll be able to fit with the standard dynamo? I've converted the car to negative earth, and it has a modern(ish) battery fitted. Looking to spend about 150 (maybe including a sub? ) so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be most grateful!

The 'dynamo' will not be a limiting factor - being able to hear the wireless above the general A series clatter is quite another matter......

There are a few places to fit a stereo.
On my girlfriends Minor, she has it mounted to the right of the column, in easy reach.
In my car, as it's a more 'trendy' cd changer unit I have mine hidden in the passenger glovebox, screwed to the insert.
Speakers on a 2 door are easy, either the 'kidney' panels, or the rear trim panels, or on the front parcel shelf (if fitted). There should be some pics around this forum ;)

Under the front seats is good for speakers, and out of sight.......

I was thinking recently of making up two boxes and fitting them under the back seat, yes it can see a bit of moisture but in a well sealed car there shouldn't be too many problems. Mainly as these bits are rarely used.
Gives more choice on speakers too!
Just wonder how the quality will be affected by the seat, particularly with passengers!

Why not save the trouble and buy speakers in pods?

It's nice to know that the dynamo will be able to still charge the battery with the radio on... I was under the impression that an alternator is almost essential if the speakers are high powered.

I do have a front parcel shelf so might try and mount them there, or if I can find some pod speakers (had a quick look and couldnt find any maybe I'm searching wrong) I guess it wouldnt be too difficult to fit them under the front seats.

I will have a look at some speakers and see what looks like they might fit

Okay so I bought a kenwood head unit with 4x 50w outputs and 2 JBL 6.5" speakers which I believe are about 45mm depth which from what I've read seem to be the right depth?

I am now completely clueless as to where to go from here . The radio and speakers came with no mounting accessories wires or screws. So, I'm guessing the things I'll need are some speaker wire to connect the speakers to the head uni (can this just be any wire?), and then some wire for connecting the ignition, earth and power wire to the fusebox. I don't really know what connectors the fusebox uses or where I'm meant to connect the wires? Also I am a bit stuck for ideas on how and where to mount the speakers I'm guessing the "kidney panels" are my best bet...

Sorry for the potentially stupid questions but I'm really quite new to all this
