Oil pressure gauge

Post by sansvalo »

Hello, I have just started fiddling with the engine. I'm going to order the spin on kit from there http://www.morrisminorspares.net/shop_item.php?ID=2046 , as well as rocker cover gasket when I finally set the valves.

How can I put the oil gauge on? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Mini- ... 19ca6c93cb is this ok? Where can I find a mechanical gauge that fits this? Or does it come in a kit? I'm really worried about the pressure, and my oil pressure wiring is totally rotten. Thank you!

That kit will fit a Minor - you just need a gauge now! I wouldn't bother with a 'spin on' kit - but it's up to you. Many modern cars are going back to paper element filters - the Minor led the way...... Here's a proper gauge - avoid the ghastly 'TIM' gauges....

I can see that you may have problems removing that plug from the head. The plug normally has a hex so that you can remove it with a socket.
I would be extra careful when fitting that sensor, it is very easy to break the capillary tube when tightening it. Been there, seen it, done it

I'm wondering if that IS a plug - or is it part of the casting? Don't see any evidence of a seal under the head.... Maybe on engines where no gauge was intended - they eliminated the threaded pocket and hex plug to save a few pennies? Can't see why it would have a 'slot' though - if it's not intended to be removable. Has anyone seen anything like this before?
