Indicator problem

Hello all,

I have an issue with my left hand indicators (1098) - the left hand lights flicker too fast when they headlamps/sidelights are off, but the correct speed when the headlamps are off; also the front indicator is very dim (in fact I think the sidelight rather than the indicator bulb is flashing) and the indicator stalk won't hold in the upright position when I indicate to turn left (and no flash on indicator stalk when I indicate to left either).

This does not appear to be any issue with bulb as I changed the front bulb and it made no difference; also the right hand side indicator lights are fine. Any ideas?

Check the earth wires (black ones).
If it should have a fibre glass wing you will need to run an earth wire from the side light cluster to the inner wing.

as above sounds like a bad earth or a missing earth if its a metal wing check the screws arent rusty if its fibreglass check you got a separate earth wire from steel body to light cluster

For the stalk not staying in the left turn position, there are a couple of things to check: Does the switch operate correctly when the cover is removed? If so, it may simply be bad positioning of the cover that is stopping the lever from reaching its correct place. You will need to remove the steering wheel to remove the switch cover, and for this, you should disconnect the battery. Also check that the inner steering column is correctly positioned on the rack, and the outer column correct in relation to the inner - There is an adjustable protrusion from the inner column that should be central to the indicator switch so that it trips the return catches as it moves past. If the relationship between these components is wrong, then the protrusion may be tripping the switch return when in the left hand position. Hope all of that makes sense, it's much easier to understand it by looking at the switch in operation with the cover off.

For the other issues, as others have said, check the earth connections.
