converting to hydraulic clutch actuation

Post by jaapvelo »

As i am converting my travellor from RHD to LHD I have troubles connecting the clutchcable.
Ii thought it shoud be possible to use a hydraulic clutch actuation.
Anybody can help me with information on how to convert the clutch actuation to hydraulic.
What master cilinder to use,
What slave cilinder to use ( Mini??)
preferably i would like the engine compartment to look like standard.

Greetings from holland

If it is a standard vehicle, it should not have a clutch cable. It should have a mechanical linkage.

You can convert it to a hydraulic clutch reasonably easily.

Best bet is to buy complete kit with everything you need.

I bought mine from the Morris Minor centre in Birmingham, but lots of Moggy centres in the UK sell the kits.

You will have to have a fluid reservoir installed in the engine bay for the clutch fluid, but otherwise, you can't tell any difference.

Tank you for your prompt reply!

Of course mine has got the mecanical linkage too as standard.
Just tried to convert from RHD to LHD with a clutch cable from the right and side of the bellhousing to the clutch pedal on the lefthandside.
This is quite difficult / Impossible due to lack of clearance with pasing the cable over the box.

any sugestions for components to use?

Yes, forget about the clutch cable idea, it might be too complex and unreliable

For the hydraulic conversion you will need the following:

Master cylinder reservoir and bracket
Tube from master cylinder to reservoir
Master cylinder mounting bracket
Master cylinder with clutch pedal linkage
Copper pipe from master cylinder to slave cylinder
Slave cylinder

All other parts needed can be made using modified original parts

You can make up the kit yourself, but the master cylinder is the 'under the floor' type as sold from many racing suppliers, which you should be able to get hold of fairly easily.

My advice would be to buy the entire kit from a specialist in the UK (or Holland if you can find one!) costing about £89 + VAT

A supplier such as the Morris Minor centre in Birmingham should be able to ship one over for you.
