problems with DVLA

Post by Lee.P »

hi,
can you help get my original reg number from DVLA? they don't seem to have any records for it.
I have the original registration book and a British motor industry heritage certificate with all the relevant
information, I really don't want a new unissued number as the original is 4 numbers and 2 letters.
can any member point me in the right direction please.

thank you.

Do you poccess the new style log book, or do you just have the old rf60?

When was the vehicle last on the road?

pm me details
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Well if the DVLA holds records with that number plate issued to that vehicle then they should have the chasis number ect. listed with the details and so if you arranged for them to inspect the car as to prove that it is the vehicle you tell them that it is then you should be able to get back the number, I think you have to fill in some form or other but I am unable to remember which one. If however the vehicles details were not put onto the computer system then you may have to try and find the paper records from where the vehicle was first registered.

DVLA form V765 I believe.
'Application to register a vehicle under its original registration number'
Copy the form off the DVLA web site.

Here is a link to the V765:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 181113.pdf

it also gives a list of car clubs that can endorse the V765
Morris Minor Owners
Robin D Thomasson
Club 34 Rom Crescent
Romford, RM7 0PP
Tel: 01708 723263
Though you may want to check with the club to see if this is still correct and not being updated

That is correct, but Rob will want full details in order to certify it. Drop him an email to check what he needs. Include your MMOC membership number.

How does repatriation work? My original registration number was sold off the vehicle in 1985, to someone "up north" who's initials matched. The original reg has been fitted to a number of expensive "up market" cars, but now seems to be possibly "on retention".
If the number is currently privately owned, how can DVLA get it reassigned back to the original car?
George (it is the green Traveller that I am refering to, in my sig pic).

the only way for you is to try to buy it back from the holder of the retention cert, its his number not dvla.
