Newbie

Post by ttwlr »

Hello All
Newbie to the forum, I don't own a MM yet but I am planning on getting one next year, I want a project one to work on, I've never owned one or been in one but I just love to look of these cars, I'm 50 now and think it's the right time to get one.
Bit worried as I know nothing about them, but I've been reading up a lot on this classic british car, and there a lot cheaper than a mk2 cortina project.
The forum looks very good and friendly, I am in laindon Basildon Essex, are there any members down this way ?
I've not seen a minor around my way for many many years.
Sorry if I've posted in wrong area
Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,
You will find that the Minor is one of the easiest cars to renovate and maintain.
Will you be looking for an early split screen model or a later car?
There are several excellent spares suppliers and a wealth of knowledge here on the forums.
Good luck with your project and welcome to the MMOC. :D

Hi and welcome! My advice is by the best car you can for your money. Don't by a really bad car as will become a headache and a money pit! Other then that, get a reasonable car and enjoy !! :D

Hello Tony, good luck with the search for your ideal car my advice is dont dismiss the older series 2 cars, the metal used pre 1961was better quality and seems to resist corrosion better than most later cars. i have a series2 saloon with 1098 engine and morris 1000 differential 4.22;1ratio, it drives very well at 55/60 mph on motorways, good luck ,graham

Thanks for the welcome
I fancy the later models as they are not as expensive to buy a project one, maybe after I've done my 1st moggy I can look out for a split screen one

Just a ride in one would be nice, and to look around one and be shown the bad points.
I did see the one in Basildon but the car wasn't in Basildon, plus I didn't have a clue what I would be looking at.
I'm slowly getting my garage done ready for when I do get one, but I have a long drive I can put it on if a barging one come up.
I read they are 12feet long, I was shocked as I thought they were smaller than that.
They just look so sexy with there curves. I'm just looking forward to getting my own one and working on it and learning as I go, I have a clarkes 100e welder that I learning to use, just picked up a compressor 50ltr, got my grinder and bits so I'm ready to go lol

Since I'm only 47 I think I'd better contact Matt on the young owners forum then!
1954 Series 2: 4 door: "Sally" -- Back on the ground with (slave) wheels, now being sprayed by me, slowly......
1970 Triumph Herald 1200: "Hetty" -- Driven back from Llangollen in Wales (twice.....)
1952 Morris Minor MM highlight with sidevalve engine still fitted, wants work, so joins the queue for now......
