flickering rev counter and temp gauge

Post by derekscoopers »

My rev counter has decided to start erratic flickering also my temp gauge can either be perfect or go straight to hot, have checked the water temp and its ok.

It may be me but I seem to think I have a low down missfire, but they may just be me.

Help

Kind of obvious to say 'look for loose connections' - but that's what it is........

Know what you mean..... but whoever built the r/h glove box cover with the tacho and guages made it so it does not come out !! so its a bit difficult to get in there.

So its drivers seat out on my back then :(

The loose connections may be at the coil or dizzy - depending where the tacky is connected. Temp gauge going to MAX indicates that the lead to the sensor is being earthed - which may be a clue, although I can't directly see how that would be associated with the flickering tacky.....

bmcecosse.

Thanks for the suggestion, now that makes sense, I have just fitted new HT bumble bee leads and may have caught the coil connection, will check in the morning.

Managed to get the rh glovebox off to check out the gauges wiring behind...... wish I hadn't seen it, that's another job to rewire that lot !!

Ok checked all the connections and remade some of them hopefully will have some success,

now when checking the dizzy and coil I noticed there was no LT wire connected to the small male spade end , never seen that before..

Any ideas ? :o

Sorted it !! :D

The new bumble bee HT lead was causing the problem with the tachometer, I guess the poor shielding was affecting the wiring on the coil, replaced it with the old one and all back to normal.. shame I liked the yellow/black lead.

Temp gauge is behaving itself at the moment, spot on in the middle,

Just keeping everything running at the moment before my meddling starts am champing at the bit to get this little beast going a lot faster and stop a lot better.

By spring it will be done :D

Always had quick mini's and there is no reason the moggy cant be even better.

A Mini is a lot lighter - and will always be faster than a Minor with the same power.
