Battery on, ign and oil light on without key

From the diagram - brown/blue wires go from A1 to Ign switch and to the main lighting switch...... The connection from A to A1 on the regulator is via a coil looped round the bobbin that controls the charge rate - idea is that increasing current demand as lights/wipers etc are switched on forces a higher charge from the dynamo. If the connection in the regulator is corroded or broken - this would explain why no volts at Ign switch or lights switch. No great harm to simply put a jumper lead from A to A1 to test the theory.

Ok thanks, i'm frustrated now. I am getting power at both A and A1 which tells me power is coming through the regulator otherwise there would be no current at A1??? I think the problem is when the wires go into the dash area, so I have decided I am going to remove all the wire loom wrapping in the dash area and trace the wires to see where they go and look for any problem. Leave that for the weekend.

Thank you for the help, finally sorted now. here's what I found. Firstly the fuse in the engine bay was stuffed in the wrong slot touching the other fuse.

Second some total dodgy wiring meant the brown and blue wire was getting no current to ignition. I have removed the lilac piece and black piece. And took the two brown and blue wires and put them into the light switch connection. Ignition now works on the key! And the second fuse is now getting power. Will work through with other wires in there that have been cut or dodgy joints. Then try start it soon. [frame][/frame]

Well done -it doe look daunting......but it is basically as simple as cars get!

Totally agree! I am now happy to report that all the electrics in the car are working. All lights and even the wipers.

Once I figured out that most of the wires that are exposed and no longer resemble their original colour it was much easier to trace them. Thanks again for helping get to the bottom of this one.
