Re: Wood
These two photo`s show before and after.
I strip everything back to bare timber, when finally prepared to a a very good finish I lightly colour the the timber with Light Oak wood dye applied with a piece of clean stockinette.
When dry, which is very quick as the dye is solvent based,I apply numerous coats of Danish Oil lightly de-nibbing with wire wool or a scotch pad in between coats.
The Danish Oil can be applied by cloth or a very good quality brush.
I feel the Danish Oil is better for the timber than vanishes.
Time has taught us that timber needs to breath and oil based products are better than varnish,a bit like sand and cement should not be used when pointing stonework, lime mortar should be used,we are paying the consequences for sealing up the stone on our heritage buildings because we knew no better in the past.
