Horn

Post by Cyril »

Hi
Both my Horn and interior ceiling light are not working.
I am wondering if they are of the same fuse?
Where and how would I change the fuse. My original manual says the fuse box should never have to be opened?
Thanks
Mark

Hi,
If both were working then is likely to be the fuse. It would be the left fuse as you look at the fuse box, the one with the purple wires connected.

If they have not worked, check the connections in the light, as I and others have had problems with these conenctions in the wrong place.

Search for Horn Stopped Working for more information.

Never have to be opened? Maybe this was the first attempt at suggesting the owner visits a dealer, who has all the necessary equipment to perform such a task. A practice all too common now!

You should try FINDING the fusebox on a Renault Clio...... The HBOL tells vaguely of two - but in fact there are three - and the one I needed doesn't even get a mention........ And the Renault Owners Forum (a v poor shadow of this excellent forum) couldn't help either....... It took a while - but I found it in the end - under a plastic cover held down with special screws needing a special 'tool' to remove them......

Opps I do apologise, here is the page, it was saying that the voltage regulator requires no attention and should not be disturbed.
Still not managed to sort out horn problem :-([frame]Image[/frame]

Hi Andy Thanks
No the horn was never sorted, when I got the car there was an extra switch on the dash board with a post it say horn??
When I removed the disc from the middle of the steering wheel the original electrical cable was disconnected, I reconnected it but still nothing :o
There has been some electrical modification in this dept of the car as the interior light also does not work.
I will keep trying
Thanks again

Mark, My car had the same arrangement for the horn switch, but I was lucky the original wire was still in the steering column and I only needed to get new horn push and remove the new switch/wiring and reconnect original wires. I also had problem with the interior light, see search suggested in earlier post.
It sounds like you may have two problems on the same fuse (as I did), so check you have 12 volts on the purple wires. If not check the fuse connections as suggested by Mike. If necessay remove both purple wires and do checks on one wire at a time, as I found trying to trace two faults at same time can be confusing.

Hi Andy
Semi success. The horn has a sound!
There are two purple connections at the horn. One for the steering wheel and another for the dash switch.
Tried the connection to the dash switch and horn will work when connector is wiggled about saying to me its a loose connection.
The second problem is that when the horn is sounding, the dash switch does not switch it off, saying there is a connection fault there also.
I have decided I am going to reconnect it to the steering wheel and see how that goes.
Phew!! annoyed neighbours LOL
Speak soon

It's the simplest thing - power runs through the horn at all times and it sounds when earthed by the push button. The extra switch - who knows......get rid of it!
