Best wings?

What are considered to be the best wings for good fit without too much fettling (and who supplies them).
A mate of mine said that he'd found the heritage ones to be not too good a fit.
They are for a '66 pick up.

Red Bull - they seem to be pretty much unbeatable........... 'Gives you wings'... :lol:

I heard that the heritage are the best available, the pattern ones are an even worse fit. I was lucky with my project that it came with a full set of leyland wings from the late 70's, that fit reasonably well, but still need a bit of jiggling.

All wings and panels need a bit of know how to fit properly.
These vehicles were at the cheap end of the market in car terms. I am sure panels and doors did not fit to the tolerances we would like to achieve with our vehicles in this day and age.
I have a totally original 1961 Traveller that has had no work carried out on it at all.
If I were to restore it today I would want the panel fit to be better,but you can only work with what the vehicle was designed to look like when new.

I have purchased Heritage panels,Hadrian panels and Ching Chong panels,they all fit after normal adjustments,I may think they should be better,but at a show or event nobody has ever told be otherwise

You will not get fag paper tolerances to the doors and bootlid like on a Jaguar MK 2 bodyshell,Morris Minors were utility vehicles and built to a different standard from new.

I remember going on factory tours years ago and the old boy`s would tell you how they took panels,doors and bonnets from their stockpile and fitted the one`s that looked the best to the bodyshell as it moved along the asembly line.
They also told us about the tricks of the trade they would carry out to make the vehicle look right before it entered the paint booth.
We just have to carry out the same now day`s.

Good reply, I would agree with all of that!
Heritage wings are thicker steel than the pattern/imported ones and so are a bit sturdier. New pattern wings seem to be a better fit than a few years ago but often still need some tweaking. Heritage ones seem pretty good but can still nees a fiddle to fit.
A good tip,is to try the bumper on after you've got the wing to fit and see how it lines up with the valence - with older pattern wings it could be a bit of a shock. I got into the habit of weldign an inch strip round the grill/hockey stick edge and weldign up the lower two hockey stick holes. Then fit the wing till it fits the door and put the bumper on. Pull the lower corner out till it fits up to the bumper valence and then drill new hockey stick holes... It seems drastic but its what they all needed. Newer supplies dont seem as bad now :)
