Folding Passenger front seat

Good evening everyone

I am in the process of restoring the seating in my 62 minor. It is a duotone model.

On the fold down passenger seat there is a metal plate that goes across the base of the upright section. I have several spare seat frames and on all of them this plate is either broken in half or snapped off all together.

I have fabricated a new plate, but my question is: looking from the back of the seat frame, does this plate curve slightly inwards or outwards. judging from the remains of one of plates I have, it curves inwards, and the bottom of the back cover is screwed to the plate in three positions.

Advice welcome please.

Yes, those plates are usually broken due to rear passengers pushing down on the folded seat. The flange is not stong enough. The curve is outward, towards the rear of the car.

I agree. I recently fabricated a new one for my seat and welded it over the original one. I think it is there to hold the seat cover and not for structural support. If you want a photo of my handy work, let me know

I left the original piece in place and made the new section with a shrinker, before welding the ends in place. I didn't remove the original strip because the corners were far too complicated for me to replicate and they must be there for a good reason.
