Yes, she is!

The National Railway Museum has recreated the streamline a couple of years ago. Regrettably she is not in working order.

What lovely trains, vehicles and layouts Rippers - do you take them to shows?

Yes - I am part of a small group called 'The East Riding Finescale Group' who build and exhibit layouts on the circuit and tend to design many of the layouts we build.

The colured pictures I posted are of an old 4mm scale model of a shipyard layout we built based on part of the Doxford system in Sunderland and called 'Walker Marine'. This model was constructed back in the late 90's and on the circuit both here and in Europe for a decade. Since which it was sold on to an enthusiastic new owner on the West Coast of the US!

Where as the black and white shots are of our current 7mm scale model of a Hospital Railway (based on the one at Whittingham in Lancashire) and called 'Hospital Gates'. This layout is currently on the circuit and has shows book for at least the next 3 years.

That said we are always building new models and trying new ideas......frosty Sotland anyone?

Generally I do within the bounds of still allowing the rail heads to conduct electrikery!...........the track is actually frosted on that particular model (which depicts a cold a frosty morning).

This might give you an idea of other finishes I employ.............. its just about observation of detail in period photos..[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

..........and someone asked me recently why I hadnt restorred another minor for a few years........

Not even close, Im an office worker and generally chained to a desk full of paperwork. This hobby is just a relaxation for me and an outlet for any artistic nature.

Cheers - as I mentioned before it is simply observation and recreating the salient bits of what is seen in a way that is pleasing to the eye. Pretty much as Military Modellers do with dioramas.

Less than it cost to ship abroad I would wager - mind that layout was a decade old and had done 70 shows.

We tend just to build for our own amusement though have been known to pitch in and help out other on occasion. For instance if anyone has been to the NRM at York in the last couple of years one of the large models in the new shop area - the Bachmann one - came from our workshop (indeed it sits back there now awaiting delivery and re-installation this Thursday after a makeover - it will form part of the big Mallard 75 event next week whenall 6 surviving A4's will be together in the museum).

Though this was more of a personal scheme - designed as it was to fit in the back of a Traveller..........[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
