So I received a 1964 morris 1000 in a million pieces. I've been slowly and successfully putting it together, until now. thanks to the wiring diagrams supplied by other members here (thanks again), I have most of it wired.
The loom has been replaced or rebuilt, and none of the wires are the right colors. they are the same lengths, just wrong colors, and are all ziptied together to make a makeshift loom. the loom is making all the connections inside the dash already, but is completely disconnected inside the engine compartment.
does anyone have pictures of the connections made off of the loom? or able to explain it really well?

Re: missing a loom
ok, so at the far end of the loom (as it wraps around the engine bay) it has connectors for the lights in the left front fender, (triangular female bullet connector and an extra for the indicator). earlier on the loom, near where the same wires should be for the right headlight, it has completely different connectors, a bunch of dual female bullet connectors, and a couple single female bullet connectors. do these connect with the lights on the right fender? or to something else that I'm missing? I'm so confused.

I bet you are confused, I would be as well if all the colours were wrong!
You really need to trace every single wire and do your own diagram (or modify the colours on an existing diagram)
All you can do is identify each wire with a meter, for example, put the side lights on and test to see which wires are live and then mark them as sidelights, then move on to dipped beam, then main etc. Good luck, it is possible but would be easier with a new loom.

Given that a previous owner has rewired the car, every wire will have to checked.
I made a check line from a 9 volt battery , an electrical 12 volt buzzer from Maplins and a few metres of red and a few of black wire.Alligator clips on the end.I sliced a wine cork in half to "store " the clips on so that they didn't touch and buzz.
Clip each end ( wire disconnected ) and check it buzzes out.Obviously switch "on " anything in the line.Battery disconnected.
Engine bay...Dynamo or alternator ? will help narrow down some connections.
Was there a fuse box in the car when you got it or just a control box ( assuming a dynamo ).
Eliminate the thicker wires, I do hope there are some !!
1.From the solenoid there should be one ( Brown originally ) supplying the power via either a control box or fuse box for the non ignition controlled stuff i.e Interior lights, and horn
2.Going to the Solenoid, to activate the starter, coming from the ignition switch, should be a White /Red ...Terminal No1 back of ignition switch
3.A Brown / Blue should have supplied the main lighting switch ( if it is a Lucas 31788 it would be Terminal No 4 , 7 being side lights and 8 headlights) other end will be via A1 on a control box to the ignition switch Terminal 3
Find homes for those first, clearly label them and then you will have to work out what the connections for the " White wires "
i.e ignition controlled side of the wiring diagrams... should be.
Remember that the 2 "feed" wires for the 1. fuel pump and 2 the Coil , leading onto the distributer are taken off the main feed ( thick wire White ) from ignition switch Terminal 2
BE VERY CAREFUL with the wiper motor. It needs a permanent live feed , a permanent earth ( to allow the wipers to self park when the wipers are switched off and a second earth which goes through the on / off switch.
i.e. it operates the exact opposite of most electrical stuff on the car.The wiper motor is live just waiting for the switch to provide an earth.
It will be tedious and time consuming but label it all and then record just as beero has suggested.
Good luck with it

thanks for the help, sounds like I am in for a nice long session of wire sorting.

Re: missing a loom
I would strongly advise getting a new loom or you are going to have problems every time you do any electrical work.
New looms are available from Speedy Cables and others and can include any mods, reversing lights etc.
Use the correct diagram from the W/S manual, there are slight differences, and lay the new loom out on the floor so that you can identify the connections.

Minor wiring is incredibly simple - I don't understand how the cables can be all wrong colours..... I have made wiring harness in the past using all red cables - and numbers on the ends as per industry norm. It may be easier to do that - or at least ignore the colours and fit ID numbers as you ring out each cable. As others have suggested - start with the thick cables and work your way down from there. Are you using Barry's easy to follow diagram from the top of this section? Print it out - and decide what numbers you will use for each cable - and then go from there.
