shock absorber oil

Post by GuidoDieringer »

Hello out there!!
I'm not sure about what oil to use in the shock absorbers.
The usual hydraulic oil or fork oil is only sae 20.

I red that sae 30 or sae 40 is good for it.
But normally I cannot use ordinary engine oil!!
It depends to foam or bubble.

What do you experts think??

Yes - ordinary engine oil SAE 40 (or even 50) is best. That's NOT 10W40 (and NOT 20W50) .....must be straight SAE 40 or 50 oil. Plenty on ebay if you can't get it locally.

50 is better! But 40 is good if it's what you can find locally.

Jackoil is just very thin basic oil - usually ~ SAE10 - even thinner (less viscous) than the original oil specified for the dampers. Guido - My location is basically shown in my name bmcECOSSE - and then by the shed codes.... :)
