I changed the dizzy on my ital 1275 engine as the previous one had a broken vacuum advance unit and the car wasn't running well.
The new one is an accuspark electronic ignition unit.
I set no 1 to TDC took the old dizzy out and connected up the new one...no joy.
I'm getting a spark at all plugs and there is fuel getting there as it was running before (plugs still getting wet).
I went back to the old points one and still no joy.
The rotor arm is pointing at about 8 o clock with no 1 at TDC and both valves closed.
I've got a feeling it was 180 degrees opposite before.
I've made sure the leads are in the right order 1342 anticlockwise with 1 coming from the 8 o clock position.
Tried turning the dizzy both ways while the engine is starting on the starter motor.
I'm sure it must be something simple as it was working (albeit misfiring under load) before.
Any thoughts?
Tom

Cheers Alex

Re: Problems starting after dizzy change
Swap the leads round two places and try again.... Of course - if the plugs are 'wet' you may have flooded it now....

Re: Problems starting after dizzy change
I've dried the plugs and cleaned them up.
The leads are in the right order based on the no 1 lead coming off the distributor where the rotor arm is at TDC on cylinder 1 (pointing about 8 o clock).
It still isn't firing...not sure what I've missed.

Not yet
The battery is on charge after petering out!
If the leads are set so that number 1 lead faces the rotor arm when number one cylinder is at TDC on compression then shouldn't that fire up?
If I swap the leads 2 places then won't I be 180 degrees out?

That' s the whole point - you didn't say 'on compression' before - it's a quick check. But if you are SURE it's on compression.....then indeed no point.
