DVLA Vehicle Information

Hi Chaps,

Can anyone decipher the following information held by DVLA on my '56 Series II Minor?

The vehicle details for WKR 329 are:
Date of Liability 01 04 1983
Date of First Registration 01 03 1956
Year of Manufacture Not Available
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 950cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour BLACK

Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle

12 Months Rate £140.00

I'm particularly curious about the date of liability and why the tax liability for this car is £140 for 12 months . Surely it should be tax exempt as it is a historic vehicle?

when you put it on the road the tax will be free change of taxation class from PLG to Historic its not automatic

Agree with above, date of liability means it was last on the road in 1983 - WOW - 30 years ago???

Having it on DVLA files is always good, (although the V765 scheme works ok if it wasn't).

The car will be classed as 'PLG' tax category. DVLA only updated tax class records for cars that had a current tax disk on the date the new category was introduced.
If your car wasn't taxed at that point ?(which yours wasn't): For no apparent reason, DVLA will not update tax category until you have provided MOT and insurance details (matching name address etc to the V5c).

Therefore as soon as it's roadworthy you need to take a trip to a DVLA local* office, or you can post off your documents and waste 2 weeks waiting for a tax disc & updated V5c.
(*not always very local!)

Basically, it's been off the road for so long that it was 'dormant' when the Historic Vehicle tax class was introduced. As stated above re transfer into correct taxation bracket, this is NOT an automatic process - you will have to notify DVLA yourself.

It also has the wrong engine fitted for the year but at least the DVLA have been notified of this change.

I'm not fussed about the engine being a 950, I knew someone who said they could walk faster than her standard 803 4 door

They aren't that bad! (Well, for the first 50k miles they are ok)

The lack of accelleration is 3rd to 4th gear because of a terrible choice of ratios (I think... it was a long time since I drove one! - maybe was 2nd to 3rd if it wasn't 3rd to 4th)

I use mine as often as possible but sadly they are not suited to any road with a speed limit of over 50 MPH... or any county other than Cambridge, Lincoln or Norfolk.

Once you get going you can't beat the ride, though - no belts, bucket seats, trafficators, cross-ply tyres and general good road-manners.
