Confirmation of speedo required

Hi, I thought I needed a 1408 speedo unit for a 1971 1098 saloon with a standard 4.22 diff - BMC confirmed this, but others seem to suggest otherwise - can anybody CONFIRM what number speedo I need? Thanks.

If you have a 1098 with a 4.22 diff then the correct speedo is a 1408. However this will probably over read by a considerable amount. My 1408 speedo is correct with a 3.9 diff. You will have to check with a sat nav. See http://seriesmm.mmoc.org.uk Car Ident. Speedo chart

Aye - they all are 'fast' by 4 to 5 % - even wehn new!
