Crankshaft pulley

Following advice from members I have been gradually been putting together a kit of parts to enable me to fit the Mini type single row timing chain tensioner , I now have all the parts but I have the following question ,it looks like the existing crank pulley is of the pressed type and looking a bit tired, so I will change this .I have not managed to get a damper type as yet but when I bought the car I serviced it and changed the fan belt ,the belt supplied to my a dealer was too long but listed as correct so a shorter version was supplied and fitted , I have seen a couple of pulleys for sale and are listed as 5 1/4 "diameter my pulley is 4 1/2 " is the pulley on the 948 cc the same as the 1098 cc and if so what is the diameter , could it be that I have the wrong pulley size fitted

I do see these larger diameter pulleys on ebay - but I am not aware of them ever appearing on Minis. Rover fitted larger water pump pulleys to slow the pump and fan - so a larger crank pulley would speed them up again! A damper is the best way forward.

So they say - but as above - the general idea was to reduce the pump/fan speeds - so fitting a larger pulley rather defeats that object. I'm also surprised it fits in the Mini front mount which is v close to the standard pulley. I don't recommend it!

Thanks for all the advice I will now concentrate on finding either a damper type or look for a standard pulley if one comes up , time to try club spares I think

There are a number under either Mini or Midget Cranshaft Pulley, but this one looks a sensible price and 'Buy it Now'.

Thanks for the guidance re the pulley on e bay I have just bought it
