I wouldn't buy anything from a seller with zero feedback

someone could be in for a 'nasty' shock when their sacred pen doesn't show up.

---if I were an Raf officer, I'd hope for a better quality pen to chew, or perhaps the decisions were not that important. I was going to join the other shrewd bidders but thought there might not be much ink left in the pen.

Re: Just the thing.....
I went to see the pen before the auction ended and it was nice with plenty of patina but I wanted something to show and even though you could argue that the chewed lid was part of the history of the pen I think I'd prefer one in better condition.

Re: Just the thing.....
Couldn't you have bought another bic and used the pristine lid/cap on this sought after pen? You could then put the chewed cap on the new pen and re-advertise it. There is an apparent market.

Re: Just the thing.....
I think the pen would lose it's character if you replaced the lid. I don't agree with over-restoration.

Re: Just the thing.....
I think a replacement lid would be considered a sympathetic safety upgrade rather than 'over-restoration' as it would prevent seepage of ink into trouser pocket whilst still retaining the look of the original pen. If you wanted to maintain the period charm and character a few gentle chew marks here and there would create the desired effect.

I can see this heading for the custom/modified section if it deviates too much from standard.
Re: Just the thing.....
I'll keep an eye on the thread Les. It might need a move if people start talking gel pens.

It's clearly ringing.davidpidge wrote:I think the pen would lose it's character if you replaced the lid.
You are encouraging people to keep nicking biro's and re-lidding them over and over again.
We need POMMreg on the case.

I hadn't thought of the ringing possibility, only the writing.
