White Morris Minor Pickup On Ebay

I noticed a white Morris Minor Pickup on ebay.

I phoned the owner who after a lengthy discussion said that he wanted £4,500 for it.

In a recent classic car auction I spotted a mint pickup correct in every way go under the hammer for £7,000

To bring this one up to the same speck it would need....
Bare metal respray...
Interior cab refurbishment.
Mechanical sundries.
New rear canvas cover.
Engine bay tidy.
You could easily spend £4,000.00

As you can see it makes total sense to purchase it.

You make more money selling something that needs work than you do having something perfect then selling it.

Think about it.

There are still enthusiasts out there who buy a car to enjoy it rather than with an eye on how much money it will make them when they sell it

Lots doing that on ebay and now making prices ridiculous and out of reach of genuine enthusiasts and younger members

Another white pickup on ebay at the moment for £11,995... looks very nice - as you'd jolly well hope so, but a sobering thought nontheless.
Perhaps a case of restoration costs (which could well be in this region if not more depending how diy it was) being expected to be recouped in sale price - something which rarely works with Morris Minors....

I totally agree that there are enthusiasts out there who enjoy restoring cars for the love of it and do not want to make money.

I have been one of those enthusiast for over 30 years.

But my point in the article if you read it properly is why spend £8.500.00 and perhaps 2,000 hours restoring a vehicle when you can buy the same one already done for £7,000.

The seller of this pickup is selling you the work.!!! He makes money, you spend it.

You've answered your own question - there are plenty out there who restoring cars for the love of it and sense of achievement. If you were looking for a 'mint' Minor and didn't want to do the work yourself then I agree that it makes sense to buy one which someone else has already done the work on.

The seller is only 'selling' the work if a buyer bought it with the intention of doing the work on it. Plenty of owners buy a Minor to use and enjoy it 'as is' and improve things as they go along and when budget allows. The seller is only making money if he sells it for more than he has spent on it, and that doesn't happen very often with Minors!

I'll answer your point Mike.The reason why you might want to spend £8500 and the time restoring a vehicle is pretty simple-------you will know what has been done, how well and what is underneath all the places that can't be seen in an assembled car. Not everyone is happy to take things on the say so of others! Some people who do cars up to sell don't always worry themselves about niceties.
If these unknowns are not an issue then ok, pay the man!
