interior trim colour

Post by ian.mcdougall »

I am thinking of a colour change when I restore my almond green Trav to Maroon B which will necessitate a trim colour change from blue grey to Cherokee red i have used the Woolies Vinyl trim paint on my series MM but that was green to green . Has anyone done a big colour change and has it lasted

Hi,
Maroon B is a lovely colour.
But you might be better off getting an interior kit in the right colour and then selling your existing interior on (or vice versa) to recoup some of your costs.
I have tried these colour kits in the past (on leather) and my impression was that whilst they are fine for refreshing an existing colour, they wouldn't be that good at completely altering the colour of the trim, despite what the advertising pictures suggest.
Certainly not in terms of longevity.
Unless of course no one was ever going to sit on the seats again..................
Best wishes,
Mike.

i never thought the recolour of vinyl would be any good until i stripped the interior out of my convertible and found that none of the panels started out life the same colour. I had photos supplied by the previous owner from when the car was converted 15 years prior to me buying it and it had the same interior

alas mike i do not think the money raised selling on the interior would go anywhere near recouping the cost of a new interior. On the other hand if going through an expensive (are they ever cheap) restoration the cost of the new interior would just be another one of those bills and the current interior would need to be in very good condition for me to decide to keep for the fear i could be disappointed every time i got in the car.

yes charlie I do not think the price achieved for interior would be great and you would have people looking for part of it and not the whole interior . i will be doing the resto myself have got a good secondhand wood set and the cost of a new interior would be too expensive for now. I will need to get good secondhand quarter trims and rear load area trims , but first I have to re-roof garage as it leaks like a sieve ,had the secondhand insulated roof for 3 years now, just after getting it had health problem which set me back then 2 bad summers put paid to re roofing, must get it done this year as series MM and 1 trav on road and 1 trav a basket case and wood turning lathes do not like being in damp conditions

The main reason I renewed mine - and I don't know if other's have found this - is that my original two tone vinyl had become brittle with age, tore easily and it was no longer a viable option to try and repair the tears in it.
But you are right, it wasn't a cheap option, though I'm glad I bit the bullet and did it now.
