For what it's worth (usual disclaimers) I agree completely with Richard (IslipMinor) on this one, on the orientations of both seals and bearings. I found the diagrams and photos extremely clear and helpful, and enirely consistent with my own experience.

I'd sooner believe a considered judgement, backed with such logic, than a phone conversation with a storeman.

I fitted those exact bearings to my car (with the half width outer race) and I fitted them with the half race facing outward of the space. Seems to work on my car[frame][/frame]
