handbrake cable length

Post by David W. »

I see two different handbrake cables, HBK119 (Saloon/Traveller/Convertible) and HBK201 (Van/Pick Up). Is there a difference in length? I've run out of adjustment.
I've coincidentally replaced rear cylinders and shoes, and gone through all the adjustments. Footbrake works fine. Could I have a possibly longer van/pickup set of cables on my traveller?
Anyway, I'm ordering a new set of cables. Hope they make the problem go away.

Doubt it. The method is to release the cable adjust nuts at the lever - wind them right forward. Then adjust up the rear brakes with the cams - and only then - adjust up the cables to put the lever where you like it. Also grease the cables and make sure they are slding freely. They do stretch with age -so new cables won't go wrong.
