Your car should have 803 engine and gearbox. However the early Series IIs had many parts carried over from the Series MM such as the square diff back axle, bearings in the front brake drums and 4 1/2in PCD bolt on wheels.

the diff was changed out for a 56 diff durring the 80's aswell at some point.

Check if the front and rear wheels are the same, early wheels had 4 1/2 in PCD, later wheels to fit the later back axle had 4 in PCD

how hard would it be to find a new speedometre and is there a wiring diagram to show how to wire in a stereo?

It depends on what diff you have fitted. If you have the small speedo in front of the driver then they are available in 1000 TPM for 803 with 5.375 diff or 1600 TPM fo Series MM with 4.55 diff.
No wiring diagram for stereo, they had not been invented, follow the instructions on the box. You will need to wire the car neg. earth

I like the paper under to catch the oil drips...... If you doubt the engine - send us some pictures!!

i will take some pics of th engineand interior. the body has been restored and interior but not the engine. the oil pan needs a new gasket as it leaks a little.

They certainly should NOT be dropping oil.

What is the engine number? An 803 begins with APHM and indeed is stamped on the Morris chassis/information plate on the bulkhead aswell - see if they match.
