Indicator issues -neg earth - fibreglass front

Post by Danny Roff »

Tried to be as clear in the title so future referees will find useful.

ok i have a fibreglass front end on my traveller and have reworked the loom to give headlights and sidelights power with no issues

but.....

my indicators dont work.
ive worked back through the loom (just using test light)and established the green power lead has power and the stalk green light works still
my first thought .....could it be the flasher unit?
ocasionally the sidelight will flash and not the indicator bulb(theyre in the same unit).....is that a bad earth?

i have read to check the brake lights work this evening on here so ill do that tomorrow and check back with results.

As always thanks for your time[frame]Image[/frame]

I'll ask the obvious :D
Have you earthed the lights? You need to run an earth for the lamps since you have the glass fibre front (which looks mint by the way :D)

The light green wire goes to the flasher P terminal. Disconnect the other two wires from the flasher and connect them together. Operate the indicator switch and the indicators on that side should light but not flash. If they do not light check connections on live feed then earth lead. Check the bulb is secure.
If you have the combined 1098 indicator/side light units and the side lights work then the earth is ok

They are unavailable now, sometimes they crop on eBay for 'Killer Prices'. It's a Willys flip front.
I believe someone was going to have a go at remaking them but can't remember now..

my mother always said
"if you got nothing good to say....."
personally i dont give a rats a**e your opinion on MY car.

but anyway made a short video clip of the faults i had with the indicator and my solution. turns out my earth wire wasnt attatched correctly and i had assumed that it was due to sidelights working (they dont need an earth to work i now know)
