New(?) Minor

Post by Ian1 »

I'm confused. Our (well, my sons) Morris 1000 is shown as manufactured in 1966 on the V5 but was first registered in 1986. The number is age related. How is this? Does it mean a previous owner has taken the number or was it hidden away for years?

I know I can get the history from DVLA but I'm too mean /skint to spend the fiver at the moment and wondered if there was any particular reason this might be.

Thank you,

Ian

Your car was manufactured in 1966. It may have been exported to another country, then reimported in 1986 when it was "first registered in this country" Or

It may have been off road for restoration when the DVLA computerised all the records so it would not show until it was re registered (1986). The car would have been given a new number if the old one had been sold (to fund the restoration).

DVLA issued the new numbers (not the original) from left over numbers not issued for the year the car was manufactured in.

I hope this helps. :D

Or it might have been in one of the Services - I used to own a T registered Traveller, but the same thing could have got an age-related plate.
