It seems to have been cast on 10 April 1938........and it does say '1500' - so I'm guessing an Oxford MO side valve engine ??

An ancient sidevalve! Not an MO Oxford - that was 1948-54. Definitely pre-War and a nice find.

Would someone be able to make some use for this? Is it worth listing on the for sale items? Thanks

It's certainly NOT for a Morris Minor.........so no use on here. Does it have the crankshaft fitted? Or at least - are the main bearing caps present with the block? I suggest you ask these folks if they want it.... http://www.morrisregister.co.uk/

It looks like a Morris 8 engine, engine mounts are different and dipstick hole is on the other side. Has it got a counter balanced crankshaft and an 80 or 102T flywheel?

As Series MM Registrar I get to see quite a few side valve engines and that is a Morris 8 Series 1/11. It differes from the later blocks in having all circular in/ex ports, later engines had siamesed inlet ports. Ref Morris Eight Information Manual Page 60/61
As has been said, offer it to the Morris Eight Register, price depends on condition but DO NOT dump it

Just be happy to keep a bit of heritage moving....... I don't suppose it is worth much - probably just the scrap metal value. £10 or so??

Stick it on ebay and hopefully it's of use to someone. Not worth much but a rare thing worth saving.
