replace steering column?

Post by Morrisbear »

hello everybody! basically new with a question if anybody can help. i have just taken the steering wheel off to find the top of the retaining 'screw' thread damged. the nut still holds on well and goes beneath the damage, but just wondered if people thought this was okay or need to replace it? Can you get just the top bit or do you need the whole column? thanks for your help!

Hahaha - how did it get like that? I laugh only because I tell folks to use a chisel to loosen the nut - and I can be sure some smart *** will come back to say this is what happens......... And maybe it is - if care is not taken. However- as long as the nut goes on past the damage, and hammers up tight - it's fine ! Why did you take the nut off anyway??

I thought it would be easier to remove the parcel liner to get to the bottom of the water jet which is leaking.

Probably need to take the glovebox liners out to get to that.

Or two, I'd say the same thing; although in reality it's usually the nut that gets damaged.
