front number plate position

Post by kennatt »

I have a fibre glass front bumper panel fitted, and the plate in the usual place below the bumper, fitted on the steel backing. But the fibre glass panel where the plate fits is not very strong and I recently hit a flooded area and ripped one corner off the fibre glass fixing point. I am thinking of fixing the plate to the grill out of the way ,but has anyone else done this and if so has it caused any overheating issues. Would be a benefit in the winter but what about in the summer(Well what summer he asks) Had a trial fit and it looks ok. A lot easier then making up new stronger brackets for under bumper fitting.Any thoughts out there.

Common enough mod -I wouldn't worry about the overheating......global warming has been cancelled......

One good thing about GRP valances is that they are extremely easy to repair - particularly when the repair won't be seen. You can buy mini packs with everything your need - a bit of chaopped strand mat, some resin, hardener, and even the gloves and mixing pot. Nothing wrong with using the grill, but if you'd rather keep it looking traditional, then less than a couple of hours should see it sorted.

bond a piece of metal in at the same time ,both sides , will reinforce the fitting points,

To keep it in the original position, you could make a bracket that picks up on the back of the two middle chrome bumper bolts. Two straight metal strips would do the trick.
