Traveller rear door stays

Post by andypocock »

The rear door stays in Henry are driving me mad with their rattling. I was wondering about replacing them with gas rams [screams from the originality gang].

I just wondered if anybody has tried this already or do I need to go and go my own homework?

Come to think of it the two on the bonnet of my XJRS are a bit tired. They might do the job.

I havn't done it, and I don't know of anyobdy who has. I imagine that with a gas ram of a similar size to the current door stay it would be possible with a small amount of fabrication for mounts etc.

Sounds interesting Andy, I have only seen the replacement for the saloon boot stay if you manage it let us know how.

I think JLH used small gas rams on his Traveller project car, might be worth a 'phone call.........

I presume you don't mean the gas rams ! :)

I'll order a couple of new ones for the Jag bonnet and then have a play with the old ones.

[screams from the originality gang]
Good! If I listened to the originality gang my minor'd not be usable the way it is - I'd be heartily sick of having to adjust the brakes, and frankly, having to use drum brakes on hills which still have escape bays.... every day.... well, it doesn't bear thinking about (at least, not something *I* like thinking about)

As if on cue....

I don't find the drum brake adjustment that much hassle - mind you there aren't many hills near here...
