Cylinder Head Gasket - Which way up?

Post by TheHups »

I'm about to reassemble the Moggy (Jody) but the cylinder head gasket does not have "TOP" on either side. One side is copper and the other is a black material (plastic???) wi[th the copper showing through where the "fluid" holes are.

Which side should be up mating with the head. Any ideas please.

I'd suggest Copper side up, but it shouldn't really matter.

Just be sure to offer up the gasket to the head and block separately, to make sure no holes could be blocked. If there are holes blocked, turn the gasket over and try it that way!

A decent gasket will have words like "Top" and "Front" stamped on it 8)

It doesn't really matter....but an 'all copper' gasket would be better. I would put the copper side up - since the head will be hotter than the block.
